Unique online banking training for West Auckland

Unique online banking training for West Auckland

The COVID lockdowns accelerated the switch to online banking and those who need an extra helping hand in West Auckland can do so from 22 – 31 August 2022.

The Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa (DIAA) has partnered with Kiwibank to develop Stepping UP training modules for online banking and these are being offered with the support of local library staff onboard DORA, a mobile classroom, as well as online via Zoom.  DORA will be visiting Glen Eden, Avondale, Titirangi and Blockhouse Bay and then ending the Auckland tour at Manurewa (1-2 September).

Open to anyone, regardless of who they bank with, the free training helps empower those who want to confidently understand and use digital banking as well as equip them with tools to recognise and avoid online scams.

Operations Director for the Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa, Laurence Zwimpfer, said the main goal is to ensure that all communities can get ongoing support for online banking and other digital skills. “No one needs to be left out; our Stepping UP digital banking programme with Kiwibank and local library partners has already provided nearly 3000 New Zealanders with new skills and confidence to use online banking.”

Jo Cocker, Digital Literacy Specialist for Auckland Council’s Connected Communities, commented that there are still many people who aren’t confident making the switch to digital banking and who need more support to detect and avoid often experienced scammers. “A visit to DORA either in-person or online could see many more people in our communities with newfound digital confidence and capability”.

People who are interested in joining in a digital banking class, either on DORA or online by Zoom, can book a place by contacting their nearest library or phone 09 377 0209.  They can also register themselves at www.steppingup.nz (Join a Class).

Three 1-hour sessions are being held each day, including an introduction to digital banking, online safety and security, and online transactions. People are welcome to attend all three sessions or whichever one interests them the most.  Classes are held at 10am, 11.30am and 1.30pm.
